Ethiraj Akilan
(Tamil: Translation) Ethiraj Akilan is a retired Principal of the Sri Vasavi College, Erode. He is presently a freelance translator. he has translated three books from English to Tamil. And several articles for little and web magazines. Currently he is engaged in translating Orhan Pamuk’s The Black Book.
Kim Bom
(Korean: Fiction) Kim Bom debuted as a writer in 2011 when her short story ‘Nae ireumeun Nana’ [My Name is Nana] appeared in the quarterly World Literature published by Minumsa. Her collection of short stories Aorireul meongneun ohu [Aoris in the Afternoon] was published in 2016. Apart from authoring novels, Kim also writes scripts for films and animation and teaches creative writing at several different universities. She runs marathons once in a while and often enjoys hiking.
Amritha Dinesh
(English: Fiction) Amritha Dinesh lives in Chennai and loves writing across genres. Her stories have appeared in Kitaab Anthology of Best Asian Speculative Fiction Juggernaut.in and Out of Print magazine among others.
Phalguni Guliani
(English: Prose) Phalguni Guliani lives between Delhi, Bangalore, and more often than not, her suitcase. She is interested in the inner lives of women and the spaces that house them; and seeks to explore these through a practice that pirouettes between writing, photography, and film.
Brenda Peynado
(English: Fiction) Brenda Peynado’s stories have won an O. Henry Prize, a Pushcart Prize, the Chicago Tribune’s Nelson Algren Award, a Dana Award, a Fulbright Grant to the Dominican Republic, a Vermont Studio Center Residency, and other prizes. Her work appears in The Georgia Review, The Sun, The Southern Review, The Kenyon Review Online, Pleiades, The Threepenny Review, Black Warrior Review, and other journals. She received her MFA at Florida State University and her PhD at the University of Cincinnati. She currently teaches at the MFA program at the University of Central Florida.
Shruti Parthasarathy
(English: Translation) Shruti Parthasarathy is a writer, editor and literary translator based in Delhi, with a longterm focus on Indian modern art. She is delighted to be a part of this year’s Sangam Residency, where she will work on the translation of two novels and a European travelogue of the acclaimed Indian abstract painter and Hindi writer, the late Ram Kumar.
Mori Ponsowy
(Spanish: Prose, Poetry) Mori Ponsowy was born in Argentina but has lived most of her life abroad. She doesn’t feel from any particular country and considers herself as a transhumant writer in search of people and stories that challenge her world view. She has published three novels, two poetry collections and a non-fiction book about her first trip to Japan. In Argentina she won the National Award for her book of poems Enemies Outside and the LetraSur Award for the novel Abundancia. Her books have been translated into English, Croatian and Bulgarian.
Zahid Rafiq
(English: Prose) Zahid Rafiq is a freelance journalist based in Kashmir. He mostly writes about war, politics and life. He studied journalism at the University of California, Berkeley as a Fulbright scholar.
Saubhik De Sarkar
(Bengali: Translation, Poetry) Saubhik De Sarkar is a Bengali poet and translator based in West Bengal, India. He has six books of poems of which the first Sheet O Bayosandhir Haspatal was published in 1995. He has translated the letters of Saadat Hasan Manto, the drama of Federico Garcia Lorca and the poems of Julio Cortázar, Roberto Bolaño, Charles Bukowski, Rudhramoorthy Cheran and Namdeo Dhasal into Bengali. He has edited the translation section of Bengali poetry webzine Baak. He is the recipient of Kabita Pakshik Award (2005) and Mallar Award (2017).
S.v. Shalini
(Tamil: Translation, Prose) S.V. Shalini is a writer and a translator. She has translated M.T.Vadudevan Nair’s novel Manju, a Malayalam novel into Tamil. She has been writing articles in both print and web publications. She is part of the editorial collective of Kalachuvadu.
Parini Shroff
(English: Prose) Parini Shroff received her MFA from the University of Texas in Austin. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in Literature and Creative Writing, and from Loyola Law School with a Juris Doctorate. She has been a writer in residence at The MacDowell Colony, Djerassi, Jentel, The Studios of Key West, and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center. Her work has appeared in Salamander, Redivider, The MacGuffin, Southern Humanities Review and others.
Komal Singh
(English: Prose) Komal Singh is a fiction and non-fiction writer and her short stories have been published by Out of Print Magazine, Indireads, Gratis and Gaysi. She’s worked with First City Magazine and Greenpeace in the past.
Jeremy Tiang
(English: Fiction, Translation) Jeremy Tiang won the Singapore Literature Prize for his novel State of Emergency. He is also the author of a short story collection, It Never Rains on National Day. Jeremy has translated more than ten books from Chinese, including novels by Li Er, Zhang Yueran, Yeng Pway Ngon and Chan Ho-Kei, and Jackie Chan’s memoir Never Grow Old. He also writes and translates plays. Jeremy is the Managing Editor of Pathlight magazine and lives in Brooklyn, where he is a member of the translation collective Cedilla & Co.
